Dr Parmjit Singh

Dr Parmjit Singh was installed as Staffordshire University’s first Pro Chancellor in July 2004. He is Director of the Asian Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT), a specialist centre that is set to become Malaysia’s newest university.
His appointment as Pro Chancellor reflects Staffordshire University’s growing reputation as an international organisation that is attracting more and more students from overseas. There are more than 1,000 international students attending courses at the University’s UK campuses, while another 6,500 students are studying for Staffordshire qualifications abroad in China, Malaysia and many other parts of the world.
The Asia Pacific Institute for Information Technology (APIIT) in Malaysia is a specialist higher education centre for information technology and business and is Staffordshire University’s longest standing and largest overseas partner. APIIT’s distinguished director Parmjit is both a visionary and an internationalist. He has never seen national borders as barriers. As someone who has been involved in IT for most of his professional life Parmjit understands that the digital age is a global one. He has been involved in information technology and education and training for more than 23 years and has been associated with APIIT since its inception and his commitment to provide education of the highest quality, designed to meet the career needs of students, has ensured that APIIT has gone from strength to strength.
Parmjit has a remarkable reputation and track record for his leadership in education in Malaysia and has sat on many Government and Industry advisory bodies. He graduated in the fields of Computer Science and Business and in 1996 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Technology from Staffordshire University. His contributions to the IT industry were recognised as far back as 1990 when he was awarded the “1990 IT Personality of the Year”.
