Academic Ethics Sub-Committee
- To consider and make recommendations concerning ethical aspects in research and teaching:
- Each case shall be considered having regard to the contribution that the project or procedure is expected to make to teaching, training or advancing the existing body of knowledge.
- The ethical standards to be applied will be those governing the relevant subject, as determined by the appropriate professional body, or standards governing subjects or fields of research.
- Reference to the Committee will be through the Chair of the Faculty's Research Ethics Committee.
- To prepare and disseminate guidelines for good practice within the area of its competence including issues concerning research governance.
- To monitor compliance with the regulations, processes and procedures the University has put in place to oversee compliance with research governance requirements and the ethical scrutiny and conduct of research.
- To determine cases as to their ethical acceptability and, if necessary, report its findings to the Chair of the Quality Development Committee.
- To report annually to the Academic Board through the Quality Development Committee.
- A Faculty Director for Teaching and Learning appointed by the Vice-Chancellor in the Chair
- The Chairs of the Faculty Committees responsible for the ethical scrutiny of research where they differ from the above
- One student appointed by the Students' Union
- The Committee may seek the assistance of other specialists from appropriate disciplines where considering specific cases
- Secretary: A member of staff from the Academic Development Institute.
