Stafford campus

One of Staffordshire University’s two main campuses is based in Stafford spread across two key sites based on:

Beaconside Road postcode:  ST18 0AD
Blackheath Lane postcode:   ST18 0YG

The Stafford campus is approximately a 10 minute drive from Stafford train station which is served by a network of national rail operators.

Staffordshire University is committed to reducing the impact of transport on the environment and we would encourage visitors to use more sustainable forms of transport where possible so have included a range of travel information below.

Visitors attending Open Days at the Stafford campus should travel to our Beaconside site to register.

By rail

Stafford railway station is in the town centre, about a mile and a half from the campus.

There are frequent services directly to and from Stafford train station. Please visit National Rail Enquiries for a full range of travel information and timetables.  Approximate journey times are listed below to give you an idea of journey times.

  • London Euston (1hr 20 mins)
  • Manchester (1hr 10 mins)
  • Birmingham (35 mins)
  • Liverpool (1 hr)
  • Crewe (20 mins)
  • Stoke-on-Trent (20 mins)

Taxis stop outside the station for the short ride to the University. There are also a frequent bus services from outside the station which goes directly to the Beaconside Campus.  The number 74/75 Arriva bus runs approximately every 15 minutes. By Car

Additional directions for travel by car

If you haven’t got a SatNav or access to online journey planners, hopefully the information provided below will help you find us. Simply click on the main motorway approach that you will be using to see further travel information.

From the M6

  • Leave the M6 motorway at Junction 14 (Stafford North).
  • Follow signs for Staffordshire University / MOD Stafford.
  • Carry straight on over the first roundabout onto the A513 Beaconside. 
  • Pass the main entrance to MOD Stafford on your left.
  • At the next roundabout, take the A518 turning and the entrance to Staffordshire University is immediately on your left.

For Beaconside

  • Exit the A518 via the slip road and follow the access road through the campus. Visitor parking is available in either of the large car parks. The main reception is opposite the Octagon building.  

For Blackheath Lane

  • Continue on the A518 past the Police Headquarters. Take the right turn signposted Little Haywood. The entrance is on the left, opposite the entrance to Weston Road High School.

From the A51

  • As an alternative to using the motorway, take the A51.
  • At Weston, take the A518 towards Stafford.

For Beaconside

  • Pass the County Showground on your left and carry on until you see the large, yellow Octagon Building on your right (NB no right turn).
  • Carry on to the roundabout and turn back on yourself. The entrance to Staffordshire University is immediately on your left.
  • Follow the access road through the campus. Visitor parking is available in either of the large car parks. The main reception is opposite the Octagon building.

For Blackheath Lane.

  • Pass the County Showground on your left. After 1 mile, take the left turn signposted Little Haywood. The entrance is on the left, opposite the entrance to Weston Road High School.

By bus

Intersite campus travel

To encourage and facilitate sustainable intersite campus travel, the University in partnership with London Midland Trains and Bakerbus operate a public bus service between the Stoke and Stafford campuses.
