Bring the Bling

The University has entered into a unique partnership with The Alzheimer’s Society, the first partnership of its size and kind to date.  It was initiated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Christine King, who has an active interest in the Society and is also a carer for her elderly father who suffers with dementia.

The partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society aims to raise money for the Society’s care, provision and research and to this end, the University has launched the Bring the Bling campaign.

Bring the Bling is a campaign encouraging people to donate any items of broken and unwanted jewellery to Staffordshire University, where any precious or good condition pieces will be sold on to a specialist merchant on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The University’s talented crafts students will then re-use, re-cycle and re-invent the broken or ‘junk’ pieces into new, unique items, which will be sold on as one-off pieces, along with any precious pieces, to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and the care of older people.  All proceeds from this campaign will go directly to the society, and there are plans for many more campaigns in aid of the charity in the future.

The University is also heavily involved in issues affecting older people through its Centre for Ageing and Mental Health.

Jewellery donations can be made in person to the Finance office at Stoke and Stafford campuses, a Bling envelope can be picked up from sites around the University and put in the internal mail, or if you are external, you can simply send your Bling to:

So have a clear out, empty your drawers and get rid of those tangled, broken, unwanted and forgotten pieces that you haven’t worn for ages!
