A Bentley sports car, Hollywood-style animation and a weightlifter being put to the test were highlights of the University’s annual showcase - the Chancellor’s Forum.

The packed event was staged at the Ruxton Technology Centre, at the Stafford campus, and attended by senior staff, key stakeholders and important partners. (To view the highlights of the Chancellor’s Forum please view the short film below).

Addressing the forum, University Chancellor Lord Morris of Handsworth OJ said the prestigious event also provided the ideal platform to unveil the University Plan for 2007-2012.

Lord Morris described the plan as “an ambitious and radical vision” and referred to the University’s specialist capability to offer real world advantage to people from all backgrounds.

The building blocks already in place for delivering this vision were then highlighted in the University’s Annual Review for 2006/07, which was uniquely produced as a documentary film.

After the forum, colleagues were taken on short tours to experience activities organised by the faculties of Health and Computing, Engineering & Technology, which focused on obesity and fitness, motorsports and hi-tech animation.

Lord Morris explained that with so many exciting developments and milestones being achieved the University now needed more voices to tell the word about its success stories.

To help fulfil this duty the University inaugurated award-winning film-maker and historian Michael Wood as Pro-Chancellor. Michael said: “It’s a great honour to be appointed one of the Pro-Chancellors of the University.

“I was in Staffordshire earlier in the year when I received an Honorary Doctorate and I was truly impressed by the dedication and imagination of the teaching staff and by the energy and enthusiasm of the students.

“Staffordshire University is a pioneer in British education, committed to ideals which will be crucial to the welfare of the country in the coming years – namely that equal opportunities in higher education should be open to all people of whatever background.

“I hope that in some small way I shall be able to help in that.”
