Journalism staff and students won five nominations at the prestigious Midlands Media Awards, held at Birmingham's International Convention Centre.

Two Sports Journalism students - Stuart Hodge and Luke Hatfield, plus postgraduate Broadcast Journalism student Ben Lowe - were nominated in the new "Student Journalist of the Year" category.

Senior Lecturer Sue Greenwood was nominated for the Digital Innovation Award and fellow senior lecturer Ross Hawkes in the Online Journalist of the Year category.

The awards are organised by the Birmingham Press Club and regarded as the leading regional awards in the country.

Staffordshire University's Head of Journalism, Sarah Rowlands said: "We are delighted to have had so many nominations. It is proof of the strength of journalism and Staffordshire University - amongst students and lecturers alike!

"We'll be back next year, bidding for more awards."
