Staffs Uni Sets up Shop in City Centre location

Staffordshire University is looking to reach out to the community from a prime city centre location.
The University is moving in to vacant shop unit in the Potteries Shopping Centre for a period of six weeks to showcase the wide range of courses and help and support available to local people, organisation and businesses.
Situated next to Lush, the shop launches next Tuesday May 26 with a packed programme of activities ranging from specialist weekly careers advice sessions to course related workshops and demonstrations on everything from motion capture animation to forensic fingerprinting.
The University’s Formula Ford racing car which is maintained by students on the Motorsports Technology degree will take pride of place in the shop for the first week although the displays will be changed weekly to reflect the vibrant and interesting courses the University has to offer.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Staffordshire University Paul Richards said: “Staffordshire University is very much a part of the community it serves and we are grateful to the Potteries Shopping Centre for allowing us this opportunity to showcase the University to members of the public who might not know about the many opportunities we have to offer.”
“Earlier this year we became one of the first institutions to announce that it was ploughing the £500,000 VAT windfall back into the community to help people made redundant or at risk of redundancy to access higher education courses.”
“On top of that we have secured additional funding which will enable us to help graduates in the area who may be struggling to find suitable employment to access a structured programme of careers support.”
The shop will be staffed by a range of university employees and student ambassadors and welcomes enquiries from prospective students of all ages and backgrounds.
