RefWorks - the online Bibliographic Management Tool
What is RefWorks?
RefWorks is a web tool which provides you with your own personal reference management database. Not only can you use RefWorks to record and store references that you have used to support your assignments, RefWorks also creates bibliographies online in a variety of reference styles from your references.
How can I store my references on RefWorks?
RefWorks enables you to store your References in 3 ways:
You can manually add a reference that you have used for your assignment to your RefWorks account. RefWorks will provide you with an on screen form and instructions as to which information you will need to add to cite your reference in your preferred referencing style.
Direct online database addition of references: many of our online databases including EBSCO, Ovid, ProQuest etc. are RefWorks compatible. These databases enable you to search for citations and then directly import these to your RefWorks account.
Importing from text/txt. Files: You can save references from a variety of online sources including web pages as a text/txt. File. These files can then be imported into your RefWorks account and transferred into your preferred referencing style.
Can RefWorks create a Bibliography for me?
Yes, RefWorks can produce bibliographies in a range of referencing styles from your stored citations into Word documents. Please check your module handbook or contact your tutor(s) to find your Faculty’s preferred style of referencing when undertaking your assignments.
Do I need a RefWorks account?
All students and staff at the University have a RefWorks account. Access on campus is automatic when you log onto a PC and then access the RefWorks site. If you use RefWorks off-campus you will need to enter the details of your Student or Staff University Username and Password (sometimes referred to as an Athens account).
