How do I borrow items and how long can I keep them for?
When you have found what you are looking for, take the items to one of our self-service machines. If you need help, please ask a member of staff at Customer Services.
The normal loan period for most items is 2 weeks, but this will be reduced to one week if the item has been requested by someone else. Short Loan items can be borrowed for 1 or 2 days depending on the item you are borrowing.
If you have reached your maximum borrowing entitlement, you won't be able to borrow anything else until you have returned some items.
Is there anything I can’t borrow?
You cannot borrow reference material, items marked 'not for loan' on the spine label or any periodicals and journals.
What if I can't find the book I need?
Any items that you need which we don't stock, you can request from an external Library through our Document Delivery Service.
Renewing Items
You can renew items at a time to suit you, as most of our renewal facilities are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You can renew online through the Library catalogue.
The automated telephone renewals line (01782-294817) is not available at the moment. Please renew your items by logging into your library account account or using the self service machines in the site libraries. If you have any problems either with your renewals or with your library account, please ring 01782 295770 between 9am – 7.45pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am - 5pm on Friday
Please remember to renew your items on (or before) the return date as fines are charged for late renewal.
For more information on renewing items see renewals web page.
Your responsibilities when borrowing from the Library
To be able to borrow, you must have your library membership card (student card) with you. No other forms of identification are accepted.
Students on placement will need to request a Student ID Card to be able to continue to borrow items from the library.
Books and other materials available for loan through the Library must be treated with care at all times.
You are personally responsible for any items that you have borrowed until the loan is cancelled.
Books must be returned or renewed by their due date. Due dates are stamped on the date label inside the front of the book or on the receipt given out by a self-issue machine.
To ensure that all members have an opportunity to use library items, you will be fined or charged for any items that are returned late, damaged, lost or stolen.
Anyone failing to pay fines or keeping books past their return date, may have their membership temporarily withdrawn.
