Accessing eResources off-campus
Using eBrary off campus or on your own computer
To be able to use ebrary off campus or on your own computer, you need to install the free ebrary Reader™ Plug-in on your computer. (Information Services student PCs already have this installed.)
You can download the Reader Plug-in from one of two places:
From within ebrary when you try to download an eBook. A message will appear asking you to 'Click here to install the following ActiveX control: 'ebrary Reader' from 'ebrary'.'
Download ebrary Reader Plug-in from the ebrary website.
What's my ATHENS username and password?
Many of the online resources are accessed by a single username and password system called ATHENS.
Your ATHENS username and password is the same username and password that you use for logging-on to the University computers.
If you have forgotten your password, please contact the online Help Desk.
Students
Your ATHENS login username is the same as the start of your University email address i.e. if your email address is: b902456b@student.staffs.ac.uk then your username is b902456b
Your password is set initially to your date of birth as a six digit number with no spaces. ie. if your date of birth is 30th September 1982 then your password would initially be 300982
Staff
To access our eResources, log-in when requested to do so using the same username and password as you do for logging onto your University PC.
Logging on
The first time
The first time you access eResources you will be taken to a screen asking which organisation you are from, the default should already be set as Staffordshire University, so you can choose Go.
Your computer will then remember your choice without asking again as it will download a small file called a Cookie, and then you will log-in as in the instructions below.
Normal off campus log-ons
When you access an eResource off campus you will be taken to a screen displaying a large green arrow and a text link "Take me to the Staffordshire University login page".
Follow the link, which will display the Staffordshire University Log-in page.
Type in your University username and password in the relevant boxes, and then click on the Login button.
