Research and Enterprise are at the heart of the Faculty’s mission to advance knowledge and to innovate. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise the majority of research in the Faculty was judged to be of national or international standard. This combination of research and enterprise is now at the core of the Faculty’s activities and is fundamental to our approach in establishing sustainable links with external organisations, and contributing to a knowledge-based regeneration of the region.
With a portfolio of activities which includes research degree supervision, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, postgraduate student bursaries, exhibitions and consultancies, in addition to publications and conferences, the Faculty’s wide-range of activities is a clear expression of its concern with research which ‘makes a difference’.
The faculty offers the following research opportunities at MPhil/PhD:
Humanities (PhDs in history, literature, philosophy, or creative writing)
Social Sciences (PhDs in international relations, politics or sociology)
Specific research areas and supervisors
Ethics guidance for faculty staff and students involved in research projects.
