Using ASK

Being faced with your first assignment at University can be a daunting prospect. This piece of software might help you to cope! It will help you to plan your time and the steps you might need to follow to survive and produce your first piece of assessed work.

You can use ASK even if you don't have an assignment to complete at the moment. Try it out - add a range of different dates and see the suggested timescales and activities. Then when you do have an assignment, you will have a better understanding of what will be required to complete this successfully.

There are no limits to the number of times you use ASK - you can use it as many times as you like to become familiar with the way it works and the range of support on offer.

To use ASK:

  1. Enter the starting date for your assignment. The system will show today's date by default, but you can change this to another date if you will not be starting work immediately.
  2. Enter the end date for your assignment. This will be the date you want to complete work on your assignment by. It may be advisable to use the day before your assignment has to be handed in at the latest, so that you are not left with too much to do at the last minute.
  3. Select the type of assignment from the drop-down list. You can select essays, reports, posters, presentations or portfolios.
  4. Click on the Calculate assignment schedule button.
  5. You will be given a list of steps appropriate to the type of assignment you have selected, broken into sub-steps, plus suggested timescales for these.
  6. Click on each step to display the information about that step in the main part of the window.
