Course outline

If you are considering a career in the football industry, perhaps have an interest in football and coaching, or have an ambition to further develop your theoretical and practical knowledge and skills within the sector, then our Football Coaching and Performance degree is ideal for you!

The BSc (Hons.) Football Coaching and Performance degree is an ‘Accelerated’ degree, which is delivered over 2 years, instead of the typical 3 for an undergraduate course. The course aims to provide aspiring football coaches from both the U.K and abroad with the opportunity to acquire the appropriate skills, and develop the specific knowledge required to gain employment in the football industry, both in the U.K and internationally.

This course is delivered by a highly motivated and well-qualified team of academics, as well as expert UEFA licenced football coaches. The course combines the disciplines of football coaching, F.A. coach education, performance and match analysis, as well as training and conditioning to enhance football players’ development and maximise their performance. The knowledge and theories developed from these disciplines will be applied to football coaching and ultimately put in to practice on the football field.

The course delivery is supported by our partners, which include the Staffordshire F.A., English Premier League (EPL) football team Stoke City F.C. and the Sir Stanley Mathews Coaching Foundation, amongst others. Therefore, incorporated in to your study will be a work placement which will could provide you with the opportunity to gain a valuable insight in to the inner-workings of a professional football club, or the development of football in the U.K. at a community level.

The opportunity to further your professional development by completing National Governing Body (NGB) and sports leadership awards, specifically those courses endorsed/delivered by the Football Association (F.A.) and their coach education pathway. Furthermore, you will gain insight and experience of using industry standard performance analysis software, for example Dartfish, Focus, ProZone, which are used within professional football clubs.

There will be delivery by experienced UEFA licenced football coaches who will share their knowledge and expertise, helping you to achieve your aspirations. Students will learn in an innovative, supportive and challenging environment with other aspiring football coaching practitioners.

Every student will need to undertake a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) screening check prior to commencing the course and undertaking any placement with the university’s partners.
