Our Accounting and Business degree gives you a stimulating learning experience that combines finance, management, marketing, strategy and entrepreneurship. Our Accounting courses have been ranked 1st for Students Satisfied with Teaching in the Guardian League Tables 2018.

You will develop skills in business strategy and project management, and establish a deep understanding of the financial impact of decision-making and risk, setting you apart from other graduates.

This flexible course allows you to select from optional modules to create a bespoke programme of study that fits with your future career aspirations. The focus is on creating a range of transferable skills - such as decision-making, problem solving, project management and critical analysis - enabling you to become an all-round strategic thinker.

Course content

You’ll be taught by qualified accountants and business professionals. To recognise the importance of employability, your first year will focus on developing essential workplace skills, such as teamworking, effective communication, confidence in delivering presentations, and IT fluency.

In your second year, you’ll explore enterprise, entrepreneurship and employability themes. You’ll also delve further into the discipline of accounting, getting to grips with financial reporting and advanced management accounting.

Between Years 2 and 3, you’ll have the option to undertake a work placement to gain invaluable practical experience and position you favourably for graduate roles.

During Year 3, you’ll learn research and data analysis skills in preparation for an independent research project. You will also study financial strategy and strategic management. We have a newly installed Bloomberg Suite allowing you to access the same data, analytics and software used by City traders to make fast-paced investment and trading decisions. We also train you to use industry leading software such as Sage, ensuring that you have the skills employers are looking for.

Teaching staff

You will be taught by an expert teaching team whose expertise and knowledge are closely matched to the content of the modules on the course. The team includes senior academics and professional practitioners with industry experience. Postgraduate research students who have undertaken teaching training may also contribute to the teaching of seminars under the supervision of the module leader.
