Your first year modules will cover the main areas of business. You’ll consider how organisations make use of available resources, people, finance and materials, as well as how businesses respond to market requirements.

In your second and third year you will develop the knowledge you gained in your first year and learn how to apply problem solving and decision making to a range of business situations. Change management is a key part of all business today and we teach you about dealing with conflict and changing organisational cultures, to gain maximum effectiveness for the organisation. We also teach you economic principles and analytical skills, to make sure you know how to research markets, prepare reports and drive overall organisational success.

Just as the world of business is becoming more technologically adept, we make sure we are up-to-date in how we use technology to help you learn. Our courses use online learning platforms, interactive white boards, podcasts and social media, to make sure you leave with an awareness of all of the most hi-tech communication methods used in business.

This course is a one year top-up degree for holders of a Business or Business Management HND/DipHE or equivalent overseas qualification.

This course offers a wide range of career options in general management and will also act as a solid basis for a professional qualification like the Chartered Management Institute or the Institute of Leadership and Management. In recent years, graduates have entered marketing, human resource management, and operations management in the public and private sectors. Many have set up their own successful businesses.

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and laboratory practicals. Seminars enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups of around 16-18 students. In addition, you will have timetabled meetings with your personal tutor at least twice a year. You will be taught in first-class learning spaces throughout your course. Many of our courses are accredited or recognised by professional, statutory or regulatory bodies.

This module map provides an indicative list of the modules that make up your course. Each module is worth a specified number of credits. You must take modules worth a total of 120 credits at each level of the course.

In addition to the excellent support you will receive from your course teaching team, our central Academic Skills team provides group and one-to-one help to support your learning in a number of areas. You will be taught by an expert teaching team whose expertise and knowledge are closely matched to the content of the modules on the course.
