This course is for people who want to work in accounting and finance within the modern competitive business environment. This is an area where the need to use technology to support the management and analysis of information is increasingly critical. Graduates will be financially literate and computer competent, possessing the ability to demonstrate extensive accounting knowledge coupled with a high standard of computer based analytical, management and design skills.
What you do
At Level 1 you study a range of topics designed to provide appropriate skills in the basics of Accounting Information Systems. These include Financial Accounting, Business Systems, Design, Analysis and Construction, Software Development, Economics and Business Skills. These provide a framework which you will build upon at Level 2.
At Level 2 your studies will include Intermediate Financial Accounting, Management Accounting Techniques, Spreadsheet Modelling Techniques, Relational Database Systems Design, Information Systems, Organisations and Management and Applied Accounting Software (Sage software).
Between Levels 2 and 3 there is a valuable opportunity to undertake a one-year work placement. This placement allows you to develop your skills and gain valuable practical experience within a working environment. This type of experience is highly regarded by employers and will therefore give you a significant competitive advantage in securing the job of your choice upon graduation. We have close contact with many high profile companies and we provide support to help you obtain a work placement that’s right for you.
At Level 3 you will develop advanced skills in areas of study including Strategic Management Accounting, Financial Modelling, Spreadsheet Automation with VBA, Database Administration Management and Accounting Theory and Practice. You will also learn Research and Data Analysis skills in preparation for an independent research project. At Level 3 there are option choices that enable you to tailor your degree to suit your interests.
