Advanced Computing

MSc, Postgraduate Certificate (PgC), Postgraduate Diploma (PgD)

Key features

  • Gain an MSc without taking time out of your career

What it's about

This vocational award is based on professional scholarship, aimed at those already working in the computing industry, who wish to develop themselves academically to masters’ level with Staffordshire University in association with their practical work in industry.

There are many awards that enable you to reach graduate level qualifications while working in the industry.  There are very few awards that let you continue to Masters Level while working.  The Faculty of Computing, Engineering & Technology has recognised that and developed a new award which will allow you to study for your Masters while working.

What you do

The award is project based and after initial training in Research Methods you progress through Certificate and Diploma stages to Masters level, which is intended to help you develop skills to Masters level.  You can expect first to research and study a subject in breadth, then develop the ability to study a more specialist area in depth before finally demonstrating your mastery in your chosen subject area.  The subjects chosen are normally connected to the work you are doing in employment but the solutions required must have an academic research bias.

Where next

We have designed the award to align with the masters standards set by the Council of Professors and Heads of Computing.  This is also the basis for the standards for Chartered Information Technology Professional, CITP which is the IT equivalent of C.Eng.
