What our students say

"The flexibility offered by the wide choice of options allowed me to tailor my degree to my interests"

What it’s about

This course will give you a wide range of knowledge in the application of information technology (IT). You will learn the advantages and disadvantages of applying IT in business and social applications and develop suitable IT solutions to real-world problems.

What you do

The first year of the course introduces you to a variety of IT aspects including analysis, design and development of systems, website publishing and hardware and network elements.

The second year develops and extends these themes so that you will become an accomplished developer of suitable IT solutions. In addition, you will learn the importance of project management and the need for a professional attitude to IT.

An optional one-year placement period can be integrated into your course or alternatively you may choose to undertake a shorter work experience module that develops your ability to apply IT solutions.

The emphasis of the final year is on developing your specialism. This is accomplished by a choice of options and work on a major project, culminating in the development of a software artefact, together with a reflective report on your work.

Further award and module information can be found here.

This award is part of the Applied IT Degree Scheme.

Where next

The course will equip you for a career in virtually any sphere of business or industry that has a need for the efficient and appropriate use of IT. Recent graduates have gained employment in IT departments in large organisations, become website developers, network administrators or even set up their own businesses.  Others have continued to a PGCE, and then gone into teaching.
