What it’s about

This course offers substantial flexibility with the opportunity to study areas ranging from from molecular biology to ecology. You may maintain a broad study of the biological sciences or focus on a specific range of topics thus allowing you to choose your own programme based on your interests and aspirations.

What you do

At Level 1 you will study modules that introduce you to the breadth of biology, such as cell biology, disease, the diversity of life, ecology, genes and genomes, and fundamentals of human physiology. You will follow a programme of practical work and workshop activities to help you understand and become proficient in key biological skills ranging from fieldwork sampling to the use of computers
for analysis.

At Level 2, you will begin to focus on areas of biology that stimulate your interests by choosing from an extensive range of options. We offer a broad range of modules, both theoretical and practical, in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, human biology and animal biology and conservation. Research skills and professional development provides an essential step in your development as an independent researcher and fundamentally underpins your Level 3 project and work placement.

At Level 3 you can use the project to carry out an in depth investigation of an area of biology most relevant to your academic interest. Your choice of other modules allows consolidation of material covered at Level 2 and extends your knowledge in current areas of biology.
