What our students say

“It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I graduated with an English degree but the opportunities weren’t there for me in broadcasting. I then decided to take my masters in Broadcast Journalism at Staffordshire University and I’ve never looked back. Within weeks of completing the course I became a news trainee at Sky.”

What it's about

The fast track one year MA in Broadcast Journalism is essential for anyone who wants to work as a broadcast journalist. One day you might be interviewing the Prime Minister or reporting from the front line and the next you could be reporting from inner-city Manchester or rural Suffolk, standing in a muddy field in the pouring rain. Or you might be the only one in the newsroom on the early shift at five in the morning when a big story breaks. Do you break into a cold sweat, just at the thought of it, or do the hairs on the back of your neck stand up in excitement? If you're excited, this is the course for you, so read on!

What you do

Between takes

You'll spend most of your time based in the large state- of-the-art broadcast newsroom equipped with the latest digital technology. The TV studio news set is part of the newsroom with the modern radio studios just off. You will work on developing your own skills and creativity and also using these to work in a team successfully. An industry professional voice coach will give you individual voice coaching sessions and she will give you personal exercises tailored to your needs for you to do in your own time. You will also learn about the legal and ethical problems that can arise in broadcast journalism and have the opportunity to take the NTCJ law exams.
