What it’s about
The first year of the course introduces you to a variety of IT aspects including analysis, design and development of systems, website publishing, and hardware and network elements.
Level 2 covers the use of IT systems for decision-making, including planning and forecasting, spreadsheet modelling techniques, networking and databases.
An optional one-year placement period can be integrated into your award, or alternatively, you may choose to undertake a shorter work experience module that develops your ability to apply your knowledge of data analysis in a business context.
In the final year, you will concentrate on the role of IT for financial modelling and decision-making, including operational research, problems in using IT and the use of IT for innovation. You will also undertake a major project that allows you to simulate the application of IT in a business situation. A choice of options will allow you to develop an interest in a specific area of IT.

What you do
Putting together your business and computing knowledge will allow you to use computers to meet the needs of business in a variety of work situations.
After a common first year introducing you to business and computing concepts, tools and techniques, Level 2 covers the development of user-centred systems including legal issues, networking, databases and the web and human computer interaction and usability.
An optional one-year placement period can be integrated into your course, or alternatively, you may choose to undertake a shorter work experience module that develops your ability to apply IT solutions to business problems.
In the final year, you will concentrate on the role of IT for financial modelling and
decision-making, including operational research, problems in using IT and the use of IT for innovation. You will also undertake a major project that allows you to simulate the application of IT in a business situation. A choice of options will allow you to develop an interest in a specific area of business and technology.
Where next
Graduates will be directly employable in the business areas of finance and marketing, in management services or in operations research departments as Statisticians, Actuaries or Business Information Specialists.
