Community Practice

MA

Key features

  • Designed for practitioners in a wide variety of jobs who work with communities

  • Explores the policy background of community development

  • Provides advanced understanding of key professional skills

What our students say

“The Community Practice course has turned out to be more demanding and time-consuming than I anticipated.  It has also turned out to be more rewarding and enjoyable.  I have previously studied at [other universities] (alright it was along time ago!) but I have never had better assistance than that from yourself.”

What it's about

The MA in Community Practice is aimed at those working in the voluntary and community sectors who want to up-date their conceptual knowledge and practical skills about a range of issues within community practice and community development. The awards are also useful for people working in the public and private sectors who are actively involved with the voluntary and community sectors, or who need to know more about community development. This award will also be of value if you are considering community practice as a possible career route.

What you do

meeting

The learning experience will be focused upon discussion, critical debate and the development and application of a series of advanced work-related skills and competencies. The MAs are designed to relate directly to your work and to enable you to enhance your critical understanding of the broader policy context in which you are operating. You will also be asked to evaluate methods of managing community and regeneration practices and their relevance to the situations and themes that occur in your work-place.

Where next?

The MA is an internationally-recognised qualification which will significantly enhance your career prospects, whether you are relatively new to the areas of community practice or you have many years of experience in the voluntary, community, public or private sectors.
