What it's about

Pile of old books

The Philosophy Department at Staffordshire University specialises in Continental Philosophy, with strengths in Kant and Kantianism, many areas of the phenomenological and hermeneutic traditions, philosophy and the arts, and European philosophy of science.
Our Taught Masters provision is offered under the umbrella of the MA by Negotiated Study in Arts, Media and Design. This is an extraordinarily flexible framework for studying.

It allows you to negotiate the content, assessment – and even the degree title! – of your MA, subject to available expertise in the Department. The Negotiated framework is equally suitable for a concentrated philosophy study, or for interdisciplinary study, for example Philosophy and Literary Theory, or Photography and Philosophical Hermeneutics.

What you do

The programme begins with two required modules, the primary purpose of which is to help you thoughtfully and thoroughly design your overall MA. Beyond that, you can choose from a wide range of optional modules from around the University to build up your MA. The tutorial team and supervisor will maintain constant support and encouragement to help you through this research based MA.

Where next?

Man in field

Because of its adaptability to your needs and interests, this MA award is suitable for all kinds of students. We welcome those studying simply out of an interest and passion for the subject, those looking to use their skills in teaching or further academic study at PhD, and those looking for a subject-based postgraduate course to enhance their career skills and prospects.
