What it’s about

In order to succeed in an increasingly competitive music industry, individuals need to be both highly creative and to have demonstrable skills in the technologies that underpin the modern entertainment business. This course will allow you to develop your creative skills while equipping you with a solid understanding of the principles behind the technologies you are using. It is designed to equip you for a variety of careers working with sound in music, film, television, radio, new media or other related industries.

What you do

As well as learning about subjects such as recording technology, sound synthesis, music processing and mastering, you will develop your composition skills working in different contexts and across a variety of genres.

There is a strong emphasis on practical work, with an individual project in the final year, where students have the opportunity to produce a major piece of work within their own particular area
of specialisation.

There are extensive music technology resources including an 80-seat computer centre incorporating Cubase, Reaktor, Reason and Sound Forge, five traditional studios and three ProTools HD2 suites. The University also has ProTools accredited status, enabling students to undertake a further recognised industry qualification.
