MA, MSc
Key features
- totally flexible study
- students determine curriculum
- high employability at the end
- forms first step to a specialist PhD
What it's about
This course offers you as the student total choice over the topics you study for your masters award. It also specifically addresses industries need for students who have chosen to study at depth topics which conventional taught awards cannot in the same depth. A major feature of the award is therefore its research and commercial relevance at the edge of current and future technologies. The student population due to the diverse nature of topics will be drawn from all areas of engineering and computer science. At the end of the award you will emerge as a technology specialist and find yourself employable in the area that you have specialised.
What you do
The award is separated into three stages, as with other MSc’s, and is 180 credits in total study. For the PgC stage you will follow a learning contract development module, and a research methods module. You will couple this with 30 credits of negotiated study, which is agreed by your supervisor and yourself. For the PgD stage you study a further 60 credits of negotiated study, this typically involves either two or four smaller negotiated learning components. Finally for the masters stage of the award there is a 60 credit dissertation.
Where next
All students once completing the MA/MSc Degree by Negotiated Leaning will find they are highly employable in the industry sector they have chosen to focus their study. As an alternative due to the high research and commercial relevance of the study material, it is also likely that a student could find themselves continuing study at PhD level.
