What it’s about

This course combines the study of digital video production and post production management, in a number of different fields, including television, cinema, video, computer animation, design and digital imaging.
We create multi-skilled graduates that are tailor-made for the modern entertainment industry.
What you do
The course centres on digital video and the creative applications (such as computer animation and special effects) that relate to post production management and production management within the television and film (cinematic) industries. It covers the skills and technologies used in post production management and video production management. Many students wish to specialise in post production, developing their non-linear editing and graphical skills to a high level. You will use industry standard software like Avid, Combustion, Maya and the full Adobe Suite, including After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator, plus the hardware and production skills that all post production professionals need to simulate the imagined events in a story, traditionally called special effects.
At Level 4 /year 1 you will learn Vector-based graphics and Bitmap graphics with Photoshop and Illustrator, basic animation skills with After Effects and basic skills for recording sound effects. These skills will be taught alongside the core film production technology skills of film making and scriptwriting.
At Level 5 / year 2 focus on Avid accredited non-linear editing, advanced animation skills with Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Combustion and 3D modelling with Autodesk Maya.
These subjects run along side the core film making skills taught in Digital Sound and Image Manipulation. We believe that to understand the skills involved in post production students should also have an understanding of Film Technology Production.
In the final year you will embark on a major individual project that will demonstrate your key skills to future employers. You will also learn to professionally author DVDs, match move objects within animated scenes and how to stream your completed work over the Internet.
Where next
You will develop a broad skills base, technical knowledge and practical creative skills that bridge the gap between technical specialists and creative professionals. With this and your knowledge of digital film and post production management you will be equipped to join film and television companies in a variety of roles, start your own business or work in other entertainment industries.
