This programme is taught in partnership with ContinYou in Birmingham.  It is an innovative award aimed at School leaders; those responsible for the community dimension of schools; Advisers and others working across LEAs with a community focus Extended schools development staff from schools and LEAs Youth leaders/workers; Senior staff from other agencies working closely with schools; Sure Start staff.

If you already have some Masters level credits (from your PGCE or other courses for example) you may be able to fast track part of the award.

What it's about

The award is available at Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters.  All study is at Masters level and usually forms years one, two and three of a part-time Masters course.

This award focuses on leading learning in community settings and provides a route for the professional development of staff working in community education contexts.  It will enable practitioners to discuss, develop and extend their understanding if this rapidly expanding area.

What you do

Our guiding principle is to place learning in the workplace at the heart of the programme.  This means that what you learn in the work place is just as important as the formal study you undertake with us.  We work closely with employers to ensure that the progrmame is relevant and responsive to the complex demands of education contexts.

We value the knowledge that you have already gained through your prior experience and you are encouraged to contribute your ideas and experiences in taught sessions.

Modules include: Learning and social capital; Leadership for learning; Leading through community partnerships; Learning for community leadership.

All students complete a research methods module and a dissertation in the final year.

Where Next?

Once you have your Masters degree, you will have the opportunity to progress to our PhD and EdD awards, Doctoral level programmes aimed at helping you develop your capabilities even further.
