What it's about

This award is available as both a single honours and joint honours. It allows you to explore your own skills in all aspects of creative writing. It enables you to develop your own distinctive creative voice in the genre that suits you best, and to master the techniques to allow your writing to achieve its maximum potential.

Level 4 core modules guide you through major periods, genres and debates. Option modules may include, for example: Imagining America and English in Contemporary Culture.

Level 5 core modules explore literature in its cultural, historical and social contexts through thematic readings of 19th and 20th Century writing, studying the work of a range of authors from Dickens to Beckett. You will also look at developing your voice as a creative writer. 

Level 6 options offer you a wide range of interest, by choosing from modules such as Gothic Fiction and Literature and the Postmodern World. At Level 6 you also undertake an extended piece of creative writing.

Where next

English and Creative Writing graduates bring with them oral and writing skills much valued by employers. Graduates find employment in schools, personnel and other managerial roles, journalism, further and higher education, marketing and publicity, social work, the civil service and in libraries as archivists, and in the community.
