What it's about

3Dworkshop studentworking

This course is especially for students who want to progress to a Level 6 BA (Hons) after they have completed a Foundation degree. It is designed to continue the ethos of Foundation degrees by enabling you to work independently or as part of a team in the creative and cultural industries. You will be expected to further develop your specialist skills and industry knowledge as you explore opportunities to advance your career.

The creative and cultural industries are one of the fastest growing areas in the country today, and this course will help you understand current practice and how to sustain your place in the workforce. To do this you will learn skills that are essential for this very special sector, where creativity and innovation are fundamental to success, but where the lack of business know-how all too often lets practitioners down.

You will develop a portfolio that demonstrates your ability to combine specialist and transferable skills, enabling you to move across and up the workforce in ways that are typical of the creative and cultural Industries today.

What you do

You will undertake a series of projects that take you through the course, and be assessed in a range of ways that reflect working in the creative and cultural industries. A key part of the course will be the planning of a major project that you will research and manage with support from specialist tutors. This might, for example, be working with industry partners to promote your work, or planning a major exhibition and managing its implementation, or establishing a range of outlets for products that you have designed. You may complete a dissertation about the creative and cultural industries if you prefer.

Where next?

As this course is about working with partners in the sector, you should have a clear idea of the opportunities open to you before you finish the course, and you may already be taking on work as part of your coursework.

You will be ready to work in a way that suits you – which may be freelance or contract work, or a permanent job in your specialist area – and you will understand that most successful people working in the sector make their own opportunities, and continue a varied career through managing their portfolio as they respond to the latest industry requirements.
