What it’s about
The entertainment arts are extremely influential and affect the lives of us all. This degree is designed to prepare you for a variety of creative, technical or administrative positions in the film, television, music and new media industries. It combines technology with the creative aspects of scripting, video and music production.
What you do
The course is highly practical and you will produce a number of finished programmes over the initial two years, followed in Year 3 / level 6, by the development and presentation of a major programme project that demonstrates your ability in writing for the screen, film-making and music production. Final year projects are developed under the guidance of a member of academic staff.
You will study digital video production and the creative applications that relate to the scripting and making of television programmes, music production and recording and the technologies of electronics and communications.
The use of current technology for video production, in particular digital filming and the use of computers for editing, mastering and post production are an important component of
the course.
Level 4 / year 1 covers transferable skills such as film technology, scriptwriting, Internet programming, Photoshop, the history of film technology and audio processing. There is an opportunity to study writing for the screen across Levels 4 and 5.
At Levels 5 and 6 (years 2 & 3) you will study digital filming, digitisation, compression, digital processing, video and sound processing, 3D scene creation, studio technology, music production and recording and multimedia authoring. You will use industry standard non-linear Avid editing packages and post production software that includes Pro-Tools, Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
