"There is great technical support in the media centre allowing students to familiarise themselves with equipment"
"Students can discover the various requirements of working truly independently on film projects and see for themselves the different stages of film making learning valuable lessons along the way"

What it's about
The MA Film Production, Practice and Theory will provide a broad based approach to film, video and screen based practice and production skills from pre-production through to post-production and beyond. It will enhance a skills’ base with theoretical (media theory) underpinning in media and film theory. It will provide a strong emphasis on production values, criteria, technologies (digital specifically) and working structures within such industries, but will address the broader remits of creative thinking for creative products. There will be a strong emphasis on the issues and debates surrounding contemporary practice and theory within film and media studies.
What you do

The Postgraduate Programme has three levels and the Diploma and Masters’ levels build on the foundation of the Postgraduate Certificate. You can stop at either the Certificate or Diploma level and receive an award, or you can go all the way through to complete the entire MA. MA in Film Production, Practice and Theory can be completed in two years part-time, or you can take the modules at your own pace, taking three or more years. They can both be taken full-time over one year.
The learning experience will be focussed upon practical workshops in a highly equipped studio setting, with production, and post-production facilities, technically focussed sessions and lecture/seminar and group workshops. The MAs are designed to relate directly to employability and vocational futures you may have planned, but also provide higher levels of academic work in film studies modules.
Where next
The award will provide you with sufficient practical experience to enable you to apply for posts in the film/media industries. The award will give you the chance to produce a substantial piece of theoretical/practical piece of work which may provide the basis for further academic/arts based higher degree work in areas like Film Studies or Fine Art. Other career progressions may be in the cultural industries, marketing, public relations and public sector or into the teaching profession if followed by a teaching certificate. Personal tutorials support you as you develop expertise through a negotiated programme of study, culminating in the exhibition of your paper-based and film work in the graduate exhibition.
