What it’s about
The BSc Film Production Technology award combines the study of digital video production and interactivity in a number of different fields, including television, video and the Internet. The course is extremely practical and will equip you for employment in a creative, technical or administrative capacity in the entertainment industry, or more generally in employment requiring an understanding of multimedia and new technologies.
Film Technology students produced all the film of Her Majesty the Queen's visit to the University including that used by varius broadcasters - our students are taught to use industry standard equipment to industry standards.
What you do
The course centres on digital video production and the creative applications that relate to the production of film and television programmes. It examines the technologies of electronics and communications and the use of current technology for video production, in particular digital filming. The use of computers for editing, mastering special effects and post-production are an important element of the course. Other skills include CD and DVD authoring, audio editing, broadcast studio production, chroma-key and virtual sets.
Level 1 covers transferable skills such as film technology, scriptwriting, Internet programming, Photoshop and the history of film technology.
At Levels 2 and 3, you will study digital filming, digitisation, compression, digital processing, video and sound processing, 3D scene creation, studio technology and multimedia authoring. Students use industry standard, non-linear Avid editing packages and post-production software that includes Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. There is an opportunity to study writing for the screen across all levels.
