The Games Concepts Design studies degree has been designed and developed with the help of noted games concept artists from industry, in order to build a digital arts design studies course capable of producing the next computing generation of multi-skilled game concept artists, with the breadth of knowledge and depth of understanding required for games design by this competitive industry.
Informed decision-making is the cornerstone of creativity and they are much sort after core skills of any successful computer games concept artist. If you are required to design and develop futuristic buildings, vehicles or characters for a next generation game console you need a fundamental understanding of the design principles that underpin these structures.
What you do
This digital arts design studies course has been designed to develop the traditional creative concept artists skills and to expand these skills to include the development of the computer games concept resources beyond original 2D concepts. Using 3D applications such as 3D studio max and Zbrush you will model and texture your ideas.
At Levels 4 and 5 you will become proficient in digital arts using 2D and 3D applications such as Photoshop and 3DS Max software, which is used predominately for games design by the computer games industry. In addition, you will explore game computer graphics, engine structure, anatomical structure and develop functional game resources from concept through to delivery. 2D/3D Matt painting, compositing character design, development, along with character modelling are all covered, as are cognitive and resource-based modelling methods.
At Level 6 you will embark on a substantial individual project as part of your design studies course which will be the key to demonstrating your skills to future employers when you graduate. Games are collaborative environments. Your teamworking skills, business, 2D and 3D will be tested in the production of original games assets.
