What Its About
The Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Science Management is a 60 credit course studied at M level, comprising four 15 credit modules. It aims to provide you with skills and framework needed for laboratory and other healthcare scientists to step into supervisory and/or management roles within healthcare science. The course begins with an introduction to leadership and management covering the core principles and including some financial and business case planning. Quality management is the focus of the second module with discussion focused on standards, providing quality service, audit and assessment, health and safety, critical incident management. The management of training and learning within healthcare science environments is the focus of the third module, examining theories of learning in the workplace, competencies and advanced training. An exciting and innovative feature of this award is the Negotiated Study module which enables you to determine specific learning objectives and embark upon learning activities to meet these objectives. It provides an opportunity to achieve personal learning objectives as part of your professional career plan and specific to your work role.
What You Do
Each module is delivered in a nine week teaching block and comprises three face-to-face workshop days and weekly online learning activities. Workshop dates are available at the start of the course and on request. You will experience a variety of teaching and learning methods in the workshops and online, such as tutor led sections, interactive exercises, group discussions, live online meetings, reflection and feedback. Opportunities to establish networks of professionals will be encouraged. Use of a computer with internet access is essential for study on this course.

| Entry Requirements: | Applicants should be working within a healthcare science environment at supervisory level or at a level suitable for progression to a supervisory or managerial post. Healthcare Science settings include both the NHS and healthcare science or related settings in the private sector.
Applicants would normally hold an honours degree or equivalent and be working in Healthcare Science at a minimum of Band 6 equivalent or above (NHS). |
