What it’s about
This course is designed for students who are interested not only in the fascinating area of human physiology but also in psychology, exercise and health. You will learn about topics ranging from sub-cellular human molecular genetics to human health and behaviour.
What you do
At Level 1 you will study modules in biology, which will develop your understanding of human physiology, cell biology, biochemistry and disease. In addition to your studies in biology you can select options from psychology or health and exercise. You will follow a programme of practical work and workshops which will help you understand and become proficient in, key biological skills ranging from fieldwork sampling to the use of computers for analysis.
At Level 2, the course centres on human physiological systems, for example, the physiology and biochemistry of the human body. The core material is formed from theory modules, practicals and workshops. Your options can be chosen from the following themes: human health and disease, biological bases of behaviour, nutrition and health. Research skills and professional development provides an essential step in your development as an independent researcher and fundamentally underpins your Level 3 project and work placement.
At Level 3 you will study applied health perspectives and select from a wide range of optional modules in the human sciences, such as evolution and psychology, sports nutrition, biomedicine and neurology. Your project allows you to develop not only your practical skills but also experimental planning and data interpretation whilst you research in an area of your own particular interest and focused on your future career.
