Introduction to Leadership and Management in Healthcare Science

Introduction to Leadership and Management in Healthcare Science is a 15 credit module studied at M level, which on completion provides you with a Certificate of Credit. This single module short course is designed for those taking on supervisory and management roles and introduces you to contemporary and traditional approaches to leadership and management within healthcare science. Coaching and mentoring, development of teams, workforce planning and the management of change are introduced. The basis of good financial management and budget planning will be studied together with useful models, tools and techniques. The role of flexible leadership and management styles within a dynamic healthcare science setting will be discussed. Accreditation for CPD points is available from the IBMS (50points).

You will attend three face-to-face workshop sessions spread over a nine week teaching block. A weekly series of online activities supports your guided independent study. Online study activities include both individual and group tasks. You will experience a variety of teaching methods in the workshops and online, such as tutor led sections, interactive exercises, group discussions, online meetings, reflection and feedback. Use of a computer with internet access is essential for study on this course.

Successful completion of this certificate of credit will serve as a credit rated introductory qualification in management. You can continue onto the full Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Science Management  (60 Credits Level M) which is designed for healthcare scientists specifically. Other courses would include Masters in Business Administration  and generic leadership and management courses.
