Legal Practice Course (Part-Time)

The part time LPC is the postgraduate stage on the route to becoming a solicitor and represents practical training for the solicitors' profession, where students learn how to put law into practice.  Most students study the part time LPC after completing the academic stage of training by means of passing a law degree or a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL). The advantage of this our Part time LPC course part time is that it leaves you with the flexibility to fit around other commitments.  

 
• All books are included in the course fee including major practitioner manuals as well as your LPC  manuals for each core and elective subject

Stage 1
In common with all institutions, as part of the part time LPC course you will study:

• three core practice areas comprising Business Law and Practice; Property Law and Practice; Litigation

• five prescribed legal skills comprising Advocacy; Interviewing and Advising; Practical Legal Research; Writing; Drafting

• the “pervasive areas” of Professional Conduct and Regulation; Solicitors Accounts Rules; Financial Services; Taxation; Wills and Administration of Estates

Stage 2
• Three elective subjects from the following may be chosen:
Advanced Criminal Litigation; Advanced Litigation and Dispute Resolution; Commercial Law; Commercial Property; Corporate Finance & Acquisitions; Employment Law; Family Law; Immigration Law; Private Client. (subject to availability)

Flexible Modes of Study 
We offer the New LPC in a range of flexible study modes.
These are designed to meet the requirements of those students who are self-funding their course to enable them to work whilst studying the LPC. It also helps those who have family responsibilities and we aim to offer the flexibility that accommodates and understands those needs.

Modes of Study 

Full time
- 2 full days a week (Monday and Tuesday) or
- 4 shorter days a week or
- 1 day (Monday/Tuesday) plus 2 evenings (Tuesday and Thursday)

Part-time day - over two years 
- Monday Year 1
- Tuesday Year 2

Part-time evening - over two years
 - Tuesday and Thursday 6-9pm

The part-time mode of study can potentially be completed in 18 months (please contact the course Administrator as above).

Blended Learning
Full time or Part-time - A mixture of online learning sessions and 9 face to face teaching sessions on Friday and Saturday

How do you do it?
• Our main aim is to prepare you for practice. Wilt this is mind all our reading sessions are practice-based dealing with real life problems so enabling you to understand common legal practice, procedures and transactions in the core and elective stages of the LPC.
• Additionally you will be guided to develop your confidence and ability in all the 5 legal skills.
• As well as individual work you will also work with a member of your workshop group to prepare and set tasks and develop other  legal skills such as writing a letter to a client or other professionals, or drafting a legal document.

In the current market, we provide ongoing careers advice to enable you to make the most of the opportunities available.  We have longstanding links with both national and local practices which enable us to advise you on a range of options. You may start your LPC with a training contract, or find one during the year you are with us. Students also find that the skills and experience gained during the LPC enables them to work as paralegals until the start of their training contract. Our dedicated careers tutor for LPC students, well supported careers department and fantastic on line resources continue to be available to you with careers advice, support and guidance  even after you have left us.
