Management Studies (DMS)
Postgraduate Diploma (PgD)
Key Features
This part-time award attracts a range of capable and experienced managers from a variety of commercial, industrial and public sector organisations.
You will experience a challenging and stimulating course in general management as a stepping off point for the next stage of your personal and career development.
It may also be used as a stepping on point for a Masters award such as the popular MBA programme.
What it's about
The aim of the DMS is to provide you with a thorough grounding in the principles of management and in the main functional areas of business followed by their integration through the application of strategic management principles to corporate achievement. We also aim to use the breadth of experience reflected within the cohort of your fellow students to support and encourage personal growth and capability by widening your own horizons. In part, this is achieved through mixed class discussions, group work and attending a UK residential.
What you do
In the first year we provide a solid foundation in the main business functions of accounting, HRM, marketing and operations. This is contextualised in the broader intellectual and personal skills of understanding and applying management principles, managing behaviour of staff and peers, positioning the organisation in the economic environment and its markets and dealing with quantitative, qualitative and incomplete information. As part of this year students attend a skills based and team building residential in the UK. This year will lead to the Postgraduate Certificate in Management Studies (CMS).
In the second year we provide, as taught modules, an integration of the main functions through the application of strategic management principles and processes, and the exploration of business decision making in the face of uncertainty.
