What our students say

"My time on the course was definitely worthwhile. It taught me the skills I needed not only to go into a media job but to go into any job where social and organisational skills are vital.
The lecturers gave me the guidance, advice and support not only regarding work but when it came down to getting a job.
I am currently working on daytime show, May The Best House Win as a Trainee Production Secretary, which involves assisting with the organisation of shoots - booking hotels and taxis for contributors and crew, chasing contributors for paperwork and making sure everything is correct and in place before the show goes to broadcast.
At the moment the latest series has just started airing on ITV1 and another series is now in production so it's a little bit manic but I love my job."
Holly Laffy, Graduated 2011
What it’s about
The rapid expansion of independent film making, broadcast television, video, cable, satellite and digital programming has created many opportunities for multi-skilled creative people who have the right expertise and motivation. We will develop your ability to work in this challenging and exciting environment by providing you with practical experience of film production using industry-standard digital equipment. The course is based on developing your self-confidence, creative ability, organisational skills and technical competence, to enable you to communicate effectively and creatively using sound and moving images.
What you do

The course has an emphasis on producing creative films using digital video, in the areas of drama, documentary and experimental filmmaking. You will explore all aspects of film production with an emphasis on ideas generation, creative problem solving and practical experience. You will develop an understanding of the production process and learn to work in the technical, organisational and creative roles of a production crew.
Work experience is gained between the semesters and at Level 6 you produce up to three films of personal interest, in readiness for your future career. We encourage industrial contact through external projects and liaison with broadcast, corporate and production facility houses. The course uses facilities in the University’s digital media production centre, which houses purpose-built sound studios and TV studios, with Industry standard digital audio and video post-production facilities.
Where next
Graduates from this course will be able to seek employment in a variety of sectors of the media industry; in television, advertising, radio, education and training, as well as a range of other film, video and audio production and post-production companies.
