What it’s about
The first year of the award introduces you to a variety of IT aspects including mobile applications, analysis, design and development of systems, website publishing, and hardware and network elements.
The second year develops your knowledge of mobile applications development and network construction and management.
An optional one-year placement period can be integrated into your award, or alternatively, you may choose to undertake a shorter work experience module that develops your ability to apply your knowledge of mobile applications development.
In the final year, you will enhance your skills and knowledge in mobile applications development. You will also undertake a major project that relates to this. There will also be an opportunity to choose from a range of options in order to tailor your studies to your particular interests.

What you do
Putting together your business and computing knowledge will allow you to use computers to meet the needs of business in a variety of work situations.
After a common first year introducing you to business and computing concepts, tools and techniques, Level 2 covers the development of user-centred systems including legal issues, networking, databases and the web and human computer interaction and usability.
An optional one-year placement period can be integrated into your course, or alternatively, you may choose to undertake a shorter work experience module that develops your ability to apply IT solutions to business problems.
In the final year, you will concentrate on the strategic role of information in business including critical problems in using IT and the use of IT for innovation and entrepreneurship. You will also undertake a major project that allows you to simulate the application of IT in
a business situation.

| Attendance: | Typically, a full-time student will have 16 hours per week of class contact time. In addition, you will need to spend time reading around the subject, researching topics, and completing assessed work. |
| Entry Requirements: | All applicants are individually assessed on their qualifications, skills and experience. However, a typical three A level or BTEC National Diploma offer will be 240 UCAS tariff points.
