What our students say
“ Although doing a Masters by Negotiated Study seemed a daunting prospect, I am finding it an immensely satisfying experience, and the work I am doing has been designed and negotiated by myself, and specifically for me. This mode of study is also beneficial in the long-term as I wish to continue with academic study and I realise that an MA Negotiated Study can give me a head start in being able to design and implement projects for study at higher level” Davina Hemmings;MA Student 2007 08.
What it's all about
MA Negotiated Study in Arts, Media and Design, is written to enable a flexible and personal approach to postgraduate study. It is suitable for a wide range of disciplinary and creative bases, whether in art and design, animation, graphics, or in the more traditional disciplines like English, History or Philosophy. Core modules will provide a wide range of transferable skills prior to embarking on an individual programme of work with a designated specialist tutor in the specified discipline.
What you do

Whilst the programme is very individually orientated, there is a range of optional modules from which you can choose to complement your own programme of work. You are also able to negotiate the title of your award with advice from an Award team and an appropriate External advisor. The tutorial team and supervisor will maintain constant support and encouragement to help you through a research based MA, enabling you to study at Masters level without taking a research route at MPhil level.
Where next
The Award will qualify you to embark on further academic study at PhD level or move into a creative, art and design environment in the commercial and employment sector depending on the discipline followed.
