What it's about
The RN/BSc(Hons) Nursing Practice is a single honours degree which offers a challenging programme with a strong emphasis on the application of academic study to the practice of nursing.
The course is delivered over an extended academic year with fifty per cent of the course based in clinical practice and fifty percent theory based in University. Your practice placements will be in a variety of hospital and community settings across Shropshire and Staffordshire which will involve travel to different sites throughout the course. During your practice placements you will be required to work early, evening, nights and weekend shifts to ensure you gain a range of experience and meet the programme requirements. The programme is modular in approach and encompasses the integration of theory, practice and research throughout. Your theory sessions will be delivered using a variety of learning and teaching methods including lectures, seminars, group work and sessions in our clinical skills laboratories.
Following successful completion of the course, you will be eligible for registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in addition to having an academic qualification of a BSc (Hons) in Nursing.
What you do
The BSc (Hons) programme is divided into two distinct parts. The Common Foundation Programme in year one and the branch programme in years two and three. During the common foundation programme students from all branches study together. During the branch programme you will gain knowledge of the assessment of adult patients, the interpretation of the signs and symptoms and the impact of illness and disease. You will learn about disorders affecting adults and the management and nursing care of these. You will look at the professional issues that surround nursing and be aware of the research based theories that underpin nursing practice. Your communication skills with families, carers and members of the multi disciplinary and multi-professional team will be developed in various hospital and community based placements.
