What it's about

The RN/BSc(Hons) Nursing Practice is a single honours degree which offers a challenging programme with a strong emphasis on the application of academic study to the practice of nursing. The course is delivered over an extended academic year with fifty per cent of the course based in clinical practice in a variety of hospital and community settings across Shropshire and Staffordshire. You need to travel between different sites for some of your placements plus work evening, night-time and weekend shifts to gain the full range of learning experiences and meet the programme requirements.

These courses are both busy and challenging. On successful completion, graduates will gain an academic qualification and will be eligible for registration as a nurse.

What you do

The programme content reflects the need for a breadth and depth of knowledge relating to nursing theory, research, communication, physiology and related sciences and social sciences, health policy and health care studies, to underpin the practice of nursing. The programme is divided into two distinct parts:

The first year of the course is the Common Foundation Programme which is followed by students studying their chosen branch of nursing. This year will provide you with an introduction to the principles of nursing along with the study of the underpinning disciplines. You will begin to develop the essential care skills that are equally applicable in any sphere of nursing and the integration of theory and practice is supported by a variety of clinical placements. The entire Common Foundation Programme must be successfully completed before students can progress into their branch areas.
