Short Course in Practical Techniques in Molecular Biology: ‘From Genome to Gene’

This 1 week short course is CPD accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. 

The combination of theoretical and practical aspect provides a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and key techniques in molecular biology.

The Faculty has dedicated facilities including a state-of-the-art Human Sciences laboratory where practical sessions will take place.

This 1 week predominantly ‘hands-on’ laboratory course has been developed for anyone requiring a sound practical and theoretical knowledge of key techniques in molecular biology, perhaps in support of participants Continued Professional Development.

Practical components will include:

• Isolation of genomic DNA

• Restriction of DNA

• Ligation into vectors

• Construction of a gene library using expression and colony hybridisation

• Large and small scale plasmid preparation

• Southern hybridisation

• PCR

• Automated DNA sequencing

The theoretical knowledge and practical skills you gain from this course are in demand in the biomedical and biotechnology based industries.
