In the early part of the course, the emphasis is on story ideas, creative writing, exercise and experimentation, and also editorial skills.

In the second year, the course delves deeper into the essentials of cinematic storytelling and the professional presentation of written material (concepts, stories, scripts, synopses, treatments, proposals, and editorial reports).  Students are equipped to produce script concepts and materials to a professional industry standard.

As the award progresses, emphasis is placed on practical work in all the major areas of fiction scriptwriting: cinema, television, and radio.  There will also be a greater element of involvement from both industry practitioners, tutors, and fellow students, in terms of redrafting and editorial polishing.  In the final year students will be required to undertake a major independent scriptwriting project with an original feature-length script for either cinema, television, or radio.

Where next

Many of our graduates secure positions in the media industries, in the film industry, in independent television, video production and radio. The transferrable skills gained on the course also offer graduates the opportunity to seek careers in the print media, in production administration, media research, publishing, and teaching.
