What Students say
"I enjoy learning new and interesting things...good and interactive teaching....I like participating in experiments... labs provide appropriate information and hands on activities that are essential for our award".
What it's about
You will apply knowledge of cutting-edge sport and exercise science so that you ca nget the best out of the person, whether that be an athlete who wishes to maximise their sporting performance, or a more sedentary individual, who wishes to improve their health.
What you do
The award will enable you to develop your critical understanding of key areas in sport and exercise science, including sport and exercise physiology, psychology, movement analysis, coaching, nutrition, practical sport, and exercise and health. Throughout the course you will develop your practical skills by working in laboratory and field settings, using our first-class facilities to plan, design and carry out analysis and interpretation of human performance. You will develop your interpersonal skills through working with ‘real’ athletes, and with individuals in a healthcare context or community setting, so that you can communicate eloquently, both verbally and in writing. These skills will be invaluable to you when seeking a career in this growing sport and exercise industry, especially with the 2012 Games around the corner.
Where next?
Our students have gone on to be: sports scientists working with professional clubs and athletes; healthcare and exercise professionals working with GP referrals and in rehabilitation; personal trainers working with recreational athletes; entrepreneurs in sport and leisure, setting up their own companies; sports development officers, working with diverse communities, governing bodies of sport, and school groups; PE teachers; sales and marketing for sport, leisure and pharmaceutical companies; and sports coaches.
