What it's about

Sports Therapy is concerned with injury prevention, injury assessment and the rehabilitation of athletes back to full functional fitness in a safe, effective and efficient manner. sports therapists utilise many rehabilitation tools such as sports massage, electrotherapy, manual therapies, exercise and stretching techniques. Throughout this course students will be taught by, and will work with, practicing sports therapists to develop an in-depth knowledge of underlying principles and a range of practical skills This will enable the student to develop competencies and gain experience essential for employment within this exciting and developing industry.

What you do

From the outset, you will gain practical experience of sports massage and injury treatment, while throughout the course you will be be working at an advanced level in applying the scientific principles of sports therapy. The first year of the course develops your understanding of physiology and movement analysis in preparation for the development of clinical rehabilitation skills in years two and three. In the final year you will also develop your own research project, helping to advance academic knowledge within the field of sports therapy.

As you might expect on a course such as this you will experience a variety of teaching and learning methods within our well equipped sports science and therapy facilities. Practical treatment workshops, lectures, seminars and self study will be a part of your daily student experience.

You will find a variety of career opportunities waiting within private sports therapy practices, professional sports clubs, health and fitness centres, sports injury clinics, health farms and teaching. Alternatively, you could progress to postgraduate study and persue a career within research.

We welcome applications from people with a variety of qualifications, skills and experience. Applicants are individually assessed. However, a typical three A level or BTEC National Diploma offer will be 260 UCAS tariff points.

In addition to meeting our academic requirements you will need to undertake an interview, a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and occupational health screening as part of our selection process. All students on Health and Social Care Pre-Qualifying Awards are required to sign a Contract of Professional Behaviour.
