What it’s about
This 12 month programme is aimed at those students holding a BTEC HND in Travel and Tourism, Leisure Studies, Tourism and Leisure or equivalent qualification who wish to obtain an honours degree. Holders of an HND Business or equivalent qualification who have studied tourism options will also be considered.
The course provides an integrated and thorough overview of aspects of tourism management to enable students to meet the challenges of the world’s fastest growing and most important industry. It develops the specialist knowledge required for particular vocations and professions within this service sector industry. The course has also received employers’ support through links with regional and national tourism organisations and has recently been formally recognised and accredited by the Tourism Management Institute.
What you do
Building upon your previous studies, the core modules concentrate on the central themes of sustainability, regeneration and the contemporary issues in tourism development and management.
Other core modules include Tourism in Action, International Leisure and Tourism Marketing and Marketing Communications for Tourism. In addition, students will carry out a detailed tourism investigation.
Group work and case studies are used extensively for learning and assessment. Most modules include coursework and an investigation. Some modules include examinations.
Where next
The award provides graduates with the skills necessary for general management and more specific career options which include: tourism operations, the travel business and tourism marketing and related service industries. Graduates are particularly suited to opportunities in the service industries and local authorities. The course is ideal for postgraduate study in tourism or for a teaching qualification.
