University Diploma in Applied Computing (UDAC)

University Diploma

What its about

The award represents a course which allows applicants to bridge their previous academic experience with a part-time course based in the workplace.  Existing Applied Information Technology (AIT) Level 5 modules will be used as well as the Learn through Work resources.

What you do

The award also offers the additional incentive of allowing successful students to progress from the diploma to degree level.  It is anticipated that this would be the BSc (Hons) Applied Computing part-time degree run at the Stoke campus.

The aim of the part-time provision in the Faculty of Computing Engineering and Technology is to encourage non-traditional students onto our courses.

Three second year degree modules (called Level 5) are studied during the course.  These amount to 60 credits (the currency of higher education).  The three modules are:

  • Applied Research Methods and Professional Development (ARMPD) (15 credits)
This module consolidates and enhances professional skills.
  • Integrated Work Experience (IWE)  (30 credits)
A work-based project is undertaken for this module.
  • Negotiated Studies (NS) (15 credits)
This latter module is tailored to the needs of each student and could typically cover subjects such as databases, systems analysis or networks.  A learning contract is drawn up and agreed between the tutor and student.

Where next?

This course is aimed at students who are looking for a relevant qualification that can be studied remotely and that applies to their world of work.

This may include Continous Professional Development (CPD), the need to update professional skills and to tailor learning to individual requirements.
