University Certificates and Diplomas

Apart from the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (120 credit award) the University offers a number of 30 and 60 credit certificates and diplomas. These are normally delivered part-time for continuing professional development, professional/skills updating, work based learning in a range of vocational and academic areas. Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)

Delivered part-time, DTLLS is for anyone working as or planning to become a full teacher in further, adult or continuing education. You should have Level 3 skills in the subject you intend to teach, though a qualification is optional. You'll need access to 150 hours of teaching practice in a recognised lifelong learning location to do this qualification. Higher National Certificate (HNC)

A two year part-time work-related qualification designed to give you the skills to put that knowledge to effective use in a particular job. You can also convert your HNC to a bachelors degree with extra study. Higher National Diploma (HND)

A two year course that is work-related and if completed with high grades, can lead to the third year of a degree. HNDs are usually studied full-time but some may offer a part-time option. Read more about Higher National Diploma (HND) »

Foundation Year

These are one-year full-time courses to prepare you for degree level work in a specific area of academic study. On successful completion of the Foundation Year you will automatically progress onto the first year of an Honours degree. Read more about Foundation Year »

Foundation Degrees

Work-based qualifications equivalent to the first two years of an honours degree and are often available by either full-time or part-time study. Full-time will usually take 2 years to complete and within 3 years if studied part-time. On successful completion of a Foundation degree you will have a guaranteed progression route to a named Honours degree, where you will normally join the third year of the programme. Degree

A bachelors degree (sometimes known as an 'ordinary' or 'first' degree) is a course of academic study leading to a qualification such as a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc). Degrees may be delivered full-time or part-time. Read more about Degree »
